To inspire and nurture a philanthropic legacy for parks and recreation in our community.
HOW WE USE YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS:
- $50 pays for one week of supplies for youth golf camp at Jim Ager Golf & Learning Center.
- $100 plants one flower every year in perpetuity at Sunken Gardens.
- $250 adds a tree to our community forest - in a public park or along a trail.
A STORY FROM OUR AGENCY:
When the world changed due to the pandemic, Lincoln's parks & recreation facilities were used in record numbers. The Lincoln community found refuge, peace, and safety in our parks and on our trails. For Lincoln Parks Foundation, it was a point of great pride and joy.
In 2020, we opened the doors to the new Wilderness Nature Camp building at Pioneers Park Nature Center, finally providing a permanent home for this important and unique summer youth summer program. Wilderness Nature Camp is a nature immersion, summer day camp for children ages 6 to 13. This is the only full-day camp in Lincoln that is focused entirely on nature play and exploration. For over 20 years, 4,000+ youth have spent their summers here immersed in nature: hiking, building forts, enjoying unstructured outdoor play, exploring creeks, playing games, singing songs, conducting experiments, making new discoveries and building friendships. Participants refer to camp as a place where they feel safe to be who they are and explore nature through discoveries, experiments, and exposure. The program has extended hours for working families and offers scholarships for families in financial need. Many camp counselors grew up in the program, which creates a family-like community.
