Story: The Nebraska Trails Foundation
Trail system development, in the Antelope Valley project, will provide a significant influence on transportation and esthetics for this Lincoln project. The main purpose for the Antelope Valley project is flood control for downtown area and the city campus, but the green space and recreation-social benefits are of importance to the community. In order that full usage of this project is achieved a biking-walking interconnected trail system is essential. The University students and faculty and the youth of Lincoln are most likely to benefit from this opportunity to enjoy this healthy life style.
Although the main sources of revenue for this project are governmental tax dollars, there is need for private funds to put on the finishing touches to the trail system. Safety is one the major factors in trail design especially trail crossings at busy street intersections. Realizing this fact the Nebraska Trails Foundation under took the raising of funds to provide a trail under-pass at the "J" Street-Capitol Blvd. intersection. The trail crosses "J" Street at this point; an especially busy intersection due to the proximity of Lincoln High. The under-pass at this intersection will greatly enhance the safe use of the trail for all.
Community Service Funds donations were instrumental in the success of the "J" Street under-pass for the Antelope Valley Project. Future Nebraska Trails Foundation projects will add amenities to the Antelope Valley trail system.
