Story: Make-A-Wish Foundation
Kevin knew exactly what he wanted to do when he was asked by his wish granters what his one true with would be. "I want to meet Adam Sandler," he said with a twinkle in his eye. Kevin hopes to be an actor himself when he grows up and meeting one of his favorite actors would be a highlight for him. In August, Kevin and his family flew to Los Angeles to meet with Mr. Sandler. Kevin waited two years for his meet and greet with Mr. Sandler, but "it was worth the wait," Kevin said.
Kevin and his family were served a catered meal at Sony Studios and then Mr. Sandler arrived driving in his Happy Madison golf cart and was very selfless with his time during the afternoon. He was gracious and funny, said Kevin's mother, Ellen. Adam sat with the family for about 45 minutes and he showered Kevin with gifts. Adam also introduced the family to his wife as well as some of the actors staring in his next film.
Kevin was diagnosed with end-stage renal failure and underwent a kidney transplant two years ago. Kevin, now 16, looks back during that time and remembers how hard it was for him and his family. I spent a lot of time in the hospital and I couldn't go to school or be with my friends. Kevin's father, Todd, donated a kidney to Kevin. There were some rough times but Make-A-Wish helped him stay positive. "Kevin has been waiting for two years for this, and to see him so happy warms my heart," said Ellen. "We never thought anything like this could ever happen for Kevin. He has been through so much. We just can't thank the Make-A-Wish people enough."
