Story: Lincoln Children's Museum

Lila was only five months old when doctors discovered a tumor in her brain.  After months in the hospital, Lila's cognitive skills were normal, but her fine and gross motor skills were still behind those of other children her age.  With two working parents, Lila's grandmother dedicated her time to helping her daughter and son-in-law take care of Lila by taking her to two-hour therapy sessions 3-4 times every week.

When Lila's grandmother heard of Toddler Playtime at the Lincoln Children's Museum she decided that it would help Lila to interact with children after spending so much time with adults.  When Lila first came to Toddler Playtime, she was shy and would not be separated from her grandmother.  Yet as time has gone by, Lila has become the excited, independent child she was meant to be.  She has grown to walk on her own and to play with the other children, not to just sit and watch as she once did.

Her therapists observe that Lila has made extraordinary progress, with significant improvement in her social, physical, and emotional skills.  As Lila is now starting preschool, Lila's caregivers fervently believe that the skills she has honed at Toddler Playtime have helped to prepare her for this new and welcome step in her life.
