Story: Girl Scouts Homestead Council

For their Girl Scout Gold Award project, three Girl Scouts from Lincoln created 242 pillowcases for the children affected by HIV/AIDS or Cancer/Blood disorders who attend Camp Kindle and Camp Coholo.  The girls also planned and provided two days of programming for the children.  They wanted to create a special way for the children to remember their experience at camp. The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award that a girl may earn in Girl Scouting.

In another Gold Award project, Girl Scouts relocated Southwood Lutheran Church's old outdoor meeting space and created a fabulous new area consisting of a fire pit, natural amphitheatre, and several new benches.  Along with their church, the girls hope the community members take advantage of this great space.

Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska has completed SkyCamp at Trails End at CATRON-Camp and Retreat Center located in Nebraska City.  Girl Scouts from Lincoln and all over Nebraska will soon be able to stay in the eight tree houses and enjoy the beauty surrounding them.  There is also a new bathhouse/storm shelter for the safety of the campers.  Two of the tree houses are handicapped accessible with ramps to the tree houses.
