Story: Nebraska Appleseed

Every day, Nebraska Appleseed makes critical strides to advance equal justice and full opportunity for Nebraska families.   When necessary, Appleseed uses targeted litigation to protect parents and children.  Currently, Appleseed is pursuing an important class action, Davio v. HHS. 

The lawsuit - representing over 400 low-income parents - challenges the Department of Health and Human Service practice of denying a parent's Medicaid when they receive an Employment First sanction.  If successful, this case will strike down the policy in question, prevent the state from removing Medicaid as part of an Employment First sanction and reinstate access to health care for these families.
