Our educational exhibit shares the stories of the pioneers, innovators, and adventurers of Nebraska’s past and inspires the pioneers who will shape our future.
HOW WE USE YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS:
- $75 buys craft supplies for students who attend one session of our popular Archie's Adventure Camp.
- $100 covers the speaker's fee for performers we engage from the Humanities Nebraska roster of historical musicians and speakers.
- $250 covers the production of a "Wagon Train Wednesday" video that expands on the historical stories told at the Archway. Find examples on the Kearney Archway YouTube channel.
A STORY FROM OUR AGENCY:
Thousands of Nebraska school children visit the Archway every year to experience history from the Oregon Trail Era through, today. More than a museum, the Archway uses life-sized figures in elaborate settings and personal audio guides to bring our history to life. At the Archway, we invite students of all ages to imagine the daring and determination of the people who first traveled the Oregon Trail, the high-spirited adventure of racing to California during the Gold Rush of 1849, and the devotion of the Mormons who moved west in search of religious freedom. Visiting students also experience the American “can-do” spirit that lead to the creation of the Pony Express, the building of the Transcontinental Railroad, the construction of “America’s Main Street,” the Lincoln Highway, and the Interstate Highway System.
People of vision and courage followed the Great Platte River Road throughout our history. They found ways to work together to turn their dreams into reality. In the process, they contributed to an enterprise that was much greater than themselves, the building of America. By sharing their story in a unique and exciting way, the Archway honors the pioneers of the past and inspires the pioneers who will shape the future.
